The 1870 Utah Census. Utah was then an independent state and not a part of the Union. Robert is listed as "Working in Wool Factory", and owning $300 in land and $700 in money-- quite a sum in those days. His sister Jane and her sister-in-law Bridget Lane are listed as "Keeping House", and his daughter Elizabeth, now 17, is listed as "At Home" i.e. she is not working. Over in the extreme right-hand column all four are listed as having been born in England.
