The Grocott Family Tree

Annie GROCOTT MATTHEWS MARSHALL (1894-1934), 
her hair looking rather odd because it was only shoulder length but she liked to
tie it up with a small pony tail -- which then popped out. She was extremely musical 
and excelled on the banjo.

 

Robert GROCOTT, of Hanley, Stoke on Trent, was born around 1850. His son was:

Herbert GROCOTT (1870-1947), of 49 Brown Street, Hanley, Stoke on Trent. On December 14, 1891 he married Annie MARKS (1871-1954). Her brother was Alfred James MARKS (b.1879 in Stoke on Trent), and her parents were Mathew MARKS (b.1844) of Hanley, Stoke on Trent who married, in 1870 at Wolstanton, Staffordshire, Jane BEBINGTON (b.1838). The children of Herbert GROCOTT and Annie MARKS were:

1... Matilda GROCOTT (1891-1955)

2... Annie GROCOTT (1894-1934). Born in Stoke on Trent, she moved to Sheffield to work in the offices of the munitions factories in the First World War. She was very musical and played to banjo to paying audiences. She married firstly, William MATTHEWS who was killed in the First World War, then Charles MARSHALL, who owned a bookmaker's business, before settling as the common law wife of Reuben KENNEY (1877-1940).
