The Kenney Family Tree
This fellow was the patriarch of my father's family. William
Douglas HAMILTON (1634-1694), Duke of Hamilton, is
known to us only through personal DNA profile results. We're looking into this
but, having done so little work on this side of my family,
all we know at present is
that he was in the direct male line of the family and that the connection was approximately 9
generations ago.
Part of my personal DNA report. The report goes on to state
that the link with Hamilton is 8 to 10 generations ago
and is a direct male-to-male descent.
Now this lady I already knew about. My dad said something
about it once. Nevertheless it does serve as a
crosscheck on the accuracy of the genetic testing. However I had no idea about
Dr. Oz.
John KENNEY (b. 1796, my g-g-g-grandfather) of Shude Hill, Sheffield was a close, lineal descendant of William, Duke of HAMILTON (1634 -1694). He married, on 17 June 1807, Ann WILLIAMS (c.1800 - 1860), daughter of William WILLIAMS of Masborough, Rotherham, Yorkshire who was born around 1775. Their children were:
1... Henry KENNEY (b.1829)
2... Reuben KENNEY (1831 - 1866, my g-g grandfather) of Black Shude Hill, Sheffield. He had married , in 1850, Julia ANYAN (b. 1852 in Tipperary, Ireland). She was a housewife in 1851. Their son was:
1... John KENNEY (my g-grandfather). He was born in 1851 at Black Shude Hill, Sheffield. He was the person who moved his family out to Deepcar, where they settled at Station Road at the Florence Buildings. He married Elizabeth Ann JONES (1856 - 1909), of Old Brampton, Derbyshire. Their children were:
1... Julia KENNEY (1875 - 1940) of 18, Florence Buildings, Deepcar.
2... John Charles KENNEY (1876 - 1920).
3... Reuben KENNEY (1877 - 1940, my grandfather). Not Reuben Joseph KENNEY as he later claimed. He was a foreman at Lowood's brickworks. In 1905 he married Clara BIRCH (1881 - 1920)
4... Albert KENNEY (b. 1883).
5... Lizzie KENNEY (b.1885)
6... Martha A. KENNEY (b.1889)
7... Mercy KENNEY (1881-1961) who married, in 1910, John Arthur WHITTAKER (1883-1948) who was born at Brownhill Row, Stocksbridge, and moved to 37, Florence Buildings, Deepcar. Their children were: Winifred WHITTAKER (b.1911) who married Walter THICKETT in 1935, Albert WHITTAKER (b.1914), Gladys WHITTAKER (b.1919), Norah WHITTAKER (b.1922), Mabel WHITTAKER (b.1923), and Enid WHITTAKER (b.1926).
8... Henry Hubert KENNEY (b.1882).
The children of Reuben KENNEY and Clara BIRCH were:
1... Clarice Edna KENNEY (1906-1995) who married, in 1934, Frederick ROGERS (1910-1984), and had a son, George Selwyn ROGERS (b.1938).
2... John William Reginald KENNEY (1907-1990). In 1932 he married Constance SWALLOW (1908-1988) of Rotherham, Yorkshire. Their children were Peter KENNEY (b.1934) who in 1958 married Martha REVITT, and Vera KENNEY (b.1941) who married (in 1963) Arthur B. DENTON.
3... Henry Hubert KENNEY (1911-1912).
4... Wilfred KENNEY (1912-October 20, 1928). He died of double pneumonia (i.e. infection of both lungs, making breathing impossible).
5... Clara Evelyn KENNEY (1917-2006) who married, in 1943, Gordon MILLER (1918-2003), whose nickname was "Scottie". They had no children.
After the death of Clara BIRCH in 1920, Reuben KENNEY had a further 2 children with his common law wife, Annie GROCOTT MATTHEWS MARSHALL (1894-1934). These were:
6. Dorothy Mary MARSHALL (1921-1990), who married James BAINES.
7... Kenneth MARSHALL (1923-2009) who in 1943 married Kathleen MARSDEN (1921-2014). My parents.
