For five years after solving the charts I went out to work to try raise the money for an expedition. However the funds needed for something like this are simply beyond the pocket of an ordinary salaried employee. Living in constant fear that someone else might solve them too, I eventually approached the press.
Kidd's 'one hundred thousand pounds' had inflation soared over almost 300 years to 70 million, based on the price of a country cottage in 1700, and in 1980.
