The New York Times report of the collision between the City of Rome, bringing Alice MARSH, her husband Edward BARRETT and their baby daughter Mary Jane BARRETT to a new life in America, and the French fishing vessel George Jeanne. The City of Rome had constantly dodged icebergs whilst passing over the Grand Banks, only to then be involved in this tragic collision. Meanwhile in the stern of the vessel little Mary Jane was contracting the measles which would kill her.
