The London Times report of the collision between the City of Rome and the French brig George Jeanne. The City of Rome, bringing Alice MARSH, her husband Edward BARRETT and their little baby Mary Jane BARRETT to a new life in America, had found herself among unprecedented numbers of icebergs over the Newfoundland Grand Banks, the very area where the Titanic disaster was to occur 27 years later. She avoided the bergs only to collide with the brig.
