Marsden

 

The MARSDEN family have lived in and around Bolsterstone and Bradfield  for centuries. They seem to have first appeared at Wigtwizzle in the 1600s.

 

Joseph MARSDEN ( My G-G-G-G-G Grandfather) born abt. 1728, he married, on 27 Nov 1755, Mary HAGUE, born 11 Oct 1730, daughter of Benjamin HAGUE (born 1702,Bradfield). Their son was:

 

William MARSDEN (My G-G-G-G- Grandfather), of Wigtwizzle, born & chr. 3 Apr 1763. He died at Town End, Deepcar, on 2 Feb 1851 aged 87. I have not discovered who he married, but his children were:

 

1...Elizabeth MARSDEN, Chr 7 Jun 1799 at Bolsterstone,Yorkshire. She appears to have remained unmarried; she was still called Marsden at End Cote, Midhope in 1841.

2...John MARSDEN, Chr 18 Jan 1801. He married, on 26 Nov 1820 at Bradfield, Rachel DYSON. Their children.

3... Thomas MARSDEN (My G-G-G-Grandfather), born Wigtwizzle, Chr 24 Apr 1803, died 8 Nov 1867.  He married Nanny CROSSLEY (30 May 1815- 23 Mar 1875), a midwife, daughter of John CROSSLEY and his wife Mary HEY (who married on 27 Jan 1813 at Penistone) of Fulshaw Cross, Langsett,  both born in 1789. John CROSSLEY and Mary HEY(d.1851) are buried together in Penistone churchyard. Thomas MARSDEN and Nanny CROSSLEY are buried together at Bolsterstone.  Thomas and Nanny's children.   Find their grave.

4...William MARSDEN, born 14 Jan 1806, Chr 16 Feb 1806 at Bolsterstone. He  married, on 16 Aug 1833, Peggy HARRISON. Their children.

5...Martha MARSDEN, Chr 8 Apr 1810, who married Thomas TURTON (1806 - 16 May 1880). They kept the Post Office at Deepcar. She died 31 May 1866 and is buried at Bolsterstone. Find their grave.
