Pike

The PIKE, GUY and BENDY families were all from Wiltshire, notably from the villages of Edington and Steeple Ashton, both upon the confines of Sailsbury Plain.

 

Thomas PIKE (My 6-Times-Great-Grandfather) was born either on 22 Mar 1690 at Enford, Wiltshire, or on 9 Oct 1692 at Froxfield, Wiltshire. He married, on ?? 5 Sep 1726, Elizabeth GUY, of Horningsham, Wiltshire. Their children were:

 

1... Thomas PIKE, born Edington, Wiltshire, 13 Nov 1727. Buried 4 Mar 1784, Rode Parish church, Wilts. He married (1) Jane Snook (2) Anne Perry.

2... Jane PIKE (My 5-Times-Great- Grandmother). Chr. 7 Jul 1744 at Edington, Wiltshire. She married, at Edington on 15 Apr 1771, James BENDY, of Steeple Ashton, Wiltshire (Chr 12 Feb 1747,buried 21 Nov 1790 at Steeple Ashton). Their  daughter was:

 

1.... Elizabeth BENDY (My G-G-G-G- Grandmother) was Chr. 12 Nov 1775 at Steeple Ashton in Wiltshire, upon the confines of Salisbury Plain not far from Stonehenge. She married, on 8 Jul 1799 in the Parish church at Twerton in Somerset, William LATHROPE of Ottery St. Mary, Devon (Chr.16 Nov 1774). He was a woolcomber by trade. She moved to Rotherhithe, Surrey with him from 1806-9 before moving to Ottery St Mary (back in Devon just over the county border from Wiltshire) where William came from. She then moved north with him and their children in the mid 1820s and settled in the Yorkshire city of Bradford where work in his trade was plentiful. Here her daughter Jane LATHROPE (b.1808) married a local Mormon named Allen LANE. Upon her husband's retirement about 1843 she moved with him to Leicester in the Midlands, whence Jane and Allen had already moved. Elizabeth died in Leicester on 6 Oct 1866. Her husband had died on 18 Oct 1862. Both are buried at Welford Road cemetery in west Leicester. For a fuller history, see under William LATHROPE Their children were:
