Molloy

The MOLLOY family were Irish Catholics who came to Stocksbridge, Yorkshire, from King's County (now County Offaly), Ireland  in 1858. This immigration was responsible for the initial introduction of Roman Catholicism into this otherwise Protestant family.

 

Patrick MOLLOY (My Great Great Grandfather) was born abt 1829 in County Offaly, Ireland. He married Mary RYAN, a full-blooded Romani who was born abt 1827. They lived with their children at Hermit Royd, Stocksbridge in 1861 and at Johnson Street, Stocksbridge in 1881. Patrick MOLLOY was one of the first furnacemen at Fox's steel works, Stocksbridge. Their children were:

1... Elizabeth MOLLOY, born in Ireland,1855. She was a labourer in 1881.

2... James MOLLOY. Born in Galway, Ireland in 1857. He was a labourer in 1881.

3... Mary -Ann MOLLOY (My Great Grandmother). Born Stocksbridge in 1859. She married, abt. 1887, Joseph MARSDEN (1864-1924) also of Stockbridge. Their children.

4... Margaret MOLLOY, born 1861 at Stocksbridge.

5... Catherine MOLLOY, born 1863 at Stocksbridge.

6... Ann MOLLOY, Born 1865 at Stocksbridge.

7... Patrick MOLLOY, born 1867 at Stocksbridge.

8...Ellen MOLLOY, born 1870 at Stocksbridge.

9… Frances MOLLOY, born 27 December 1871 at Stocksbridge, she married, in 1893, John WALSH who owned a department store in Sheffield, which their grandchildren sold to Harrod’s in 1946.

Most MOLLOY graves are at Rivelin Cemetery, Loxley, Yorkshire.
