3... Harry MARSDEN (My Grandfather). Named Harry (not Henry) after his grandmother Harriet LATHROPE, he was born on  21 Apr 1891. He worked for a while in the scrapyard at Samuel Fox's, but spent the greater part of his working life as a coal miner for the same employer. He kept livestock, notably pigs, was rather notorious for poaching on Broomhead Moor, especially during the Depression of the late 1920s and early 1930s, and also had a passion for boxing, which he was not averse to putting into effect during personal disagreements in public houses. He married, on 7 Feb 1914, Annie LOFTUS, (28 Dec 1893-28 Feb1981), who in June 1913 sought refuge at the Johnson Street, Stocksbridge home of Harry's parents after being thrown out of her own home in Sheffield because she was pregnant by him. She was the daughter of George LOFTUS and his wife Anne CONNOR (born abt 1869), both of Sheffield. Anne CONNOR was the daughter of Patrick CONNOR (b 1842?) and his wife Mary DOYLE (b.1843?), also both of Sheffield. Harry and Annie lived first at Johnson Street, Stocksbridge before moving to nearby Horner House and then to Hawthorn Brook. Harry MARSDEN died of a coronary,  at the age of 64, on 12 Aug 1955, ironically the Glorious Twelfth which signals the beginning of the grouse shooting season on the moor. He is buried in the Roman Catholic cemetery at Nanny Hill, Stocksbridge.  The children of Harry MARSDEN and Annie LOFTUS. Photo of Harry MARSDEN and Annie LOFTUS. Photo of Annie LOFTUS.
